Super Typhoon Haiyan / Yolanda, one of the strongest tropical cyclones ever observed - stronger even than Hurricane Katrina - made landfall Friday morning in the Philippines and will affect many other regions, including Laos, Vietnam and Palau.

Over 17 million people are in the path of category 1 windspeeds or higher (120 km/h).

International NGOs and First Responders are mobilising emergency response and relief efforts right now.

The Geeklist Corps of Developers is immediately launching a rapid virtual #hack4good to try and help the people and animals in the way of Typhoon.

We are compiling ideas for how we can assist with immediate emergency response, crisis mapping, relief efforts and ongoing recovery and relief after the event.

Uniting the world’s top developers, designers and tech thinkers with NGOs, organisations and authorities in the affected areas, we are asking you to join us in doing what you can to help.

This is a Geeklist Corps of Developers alpha event. Anyone capable of helping may join.

After joining, you will receive further instructions by email.

Thank you all and let’s unite to help solve problems immediately and for future disasters!

- Dan Cunningham, Director of the Geeklist Corps of Developers and Geeklist Ambassador to London.
