Who led Pixar’s animation system that created Brave?
You don’t have to be a parent to have a true appreciation for great animation and art. We see it every day, but we rarely see, or know, who really was behind building it. I studied animation and illustration at MISD many eons ago, when Macromedia Director was running on my Powermac 6100 and I dreamed of animating for Disney one day. Well, while I didn’t make the cut (4th out of 3 intern spots our school granted in alliance with Disney) and went into advertising/design instead, I always maintained a passion for great illustration and animation. Now with a 5 year old daughter I see every movie repeatedly and the Pixar movies have been by far the most innovative in animation history. But I never knew who actually was behind the making of the movies until now.
Meet Oren Jacob, former Pixar CTO.
Oren stopped in to Geeklist today to share that he “Led the project to build Pixar’s new animation system, used to create Brave…” with everyone: (Thank you Oren!)
Whether you’ve seen Brave or not yet, this is one of those moments that truly excites both me and my co-founder, Christian. (Christian mentioned to me he saw Brave and absolutely loved it, btw) Oren is one of those leading CTO’s who inspire us both, not to mention the fact that Christian was a software engineer at Disney Online early in his career.
Oren actually added a card to Geeklist a few months ago which even got my 5 year old daughter excited… for the first time she said “Oh daddy, that’s so cool! Geeklist is cool daddy!” when I read to her this card:

Ok, her first reaction was ‘a con-what daddy?’ so we went and watched Toy Story again for the umpteenth time, but she got it. Why does this matter? Because our next generation of engineers, designers, illustrators don’t want to learn about things in a resume. They want to be heard, discovered, appreciated… ^5’d! Socially.
Now Oren is on to his newest venture, this time as CEO and “Lead Avalanche Forecaster” at ToyTalk…and yes, they are hiring, so build up that Geeklist profile with your own awesome achievements, perhaps they will find you. ;)
Thanks Oren for sharing such impactful achievements with everyone in Geeklist. We are all looking forward to world-changing innovation from ToyTalk!
